The Lexington R-V School District is pleased to announce the hiring of Joel Mathews as the Head Football Coach for the Minutemen. Coach Mathews has coached in the Kansas City metro area for the past 20 years and has a proven record of success on and off the field. He has been an assistant coach and offensive coordinator at Fort Osage and was part of a Class 5 State title team in 2015, as well as making championship appearances in 2009, 2012, and 2018. He has also served as a defensive coordinator at Excelsior Springs and, most recently, as an offensive coordinator at Winnetonka High School, where he directed an offense that averaged the highest points per game in the school’s last 10 seasons.
Coach Mathews believes in developing relationships with young men that last longer than their time in the football program. He is most proud of former players that he has coached who have gone on to have successful careers in their communities and become great husbands and fathers. He is looking forward to the opportunity to work with the student-athletes in Lexington and help them reach their fullest potential.
He has been married to Michelle for 19 years and has two daughters, Reagan, a sophomore, and McKinley, an 8th grader.
